The cozy winter brings with it all varieties of temptations. From sleepy mornings and overindulgences in eggnog, baked goods, and takeout, you might be feeling, well, sluggish after the season ends.
Thus, it’s time to jumpstart your health and rejuvenate your body.
And while we could sit here and lecture you about how important it is to get heaping helpings of fruits and vegetables, we know that you already know that. So don’t worry — rather than feeding you familiar tips, we’re here to shake it up a bit.
Here’s what we recommend this year:
Sipping Your Way Into Spring
As the weather warms up, it can be easy to relish in the turn of the season with friends and family, the likes of which may include plenty of cocktail hours or bubbly beverages. And while these delicious treats may serve their own purpose in moderation, don’t let them come at the expense of your hydration and health.
Instead, we recommend searching for healthy mocktail recipes or, at the very least, low-calorie cocktails that won’t interfere with your healthy commitments.
Better yet, try going back to basics with lemon water! After all, according to Cleveland Clinic, lemon water doesn’t just help with hydration. It also…
- Aids digestion
- Provides you with Vitamin
- Help prevent kidney stones
- Is supplementary to weight loss
- And more
Prepping Your Personalized Sun Protection
While SPF and shade are at the forefront of our minds during summer, you’ll want to make sure you’re properly investing in yourself earlier on in spring. Just because it doesn’t feel as hot doesn’t mean the UVA and UVB rays aren’t as strong as ever.
But, what else is there to do besides slather on sunscreen? Simple: Revamp your spring wardrobe with clothes rated with a minimum of 30 UPF (ultraviolet protection factor).
“The [UPF] number indicates what fraction of the sun’s UV rays can penetrate the fabric,” the Skin Cancer Foundation explains. “A shirt labeled UPF 50, for example, allows just 1/50th of the UV radiation to reach your skin.”
Remember, however, to combine these clothing articles with sunscreen wherever you have skin left exposed.
Relish In Rest By Resetting Your Sleep
Even the healthiest of routines are liable to suffer so long as you don’t get enough rest.
Between helping to regulate your metabolism, hormones, moods, and more, sleep is essentially when you slide a new battery pack into your body, thereby allowing all of your systems to regulate themselves and function optimally.
But if you’re not sure where to begin in resetting that circadian rhythm of yours, don’t worry — advice is close at hand.
“In order to gradually adjust to a new sleep schedule, you can make adjustments in 15 or 30-minute increments over a series of days,” the Sleep Foundation recommends. “You can also focus first on the wake-up time, creating one fixed part of your schedule, and then use the tips described below to modify your sleep habits so that you can incrementally get used to falling asleep at your scheduled bedtime.”
That all being said, sometimes health extends beyond just how we nourish our bodies. Rather, it involves how we feel about our bodies and how we make physical changes to shed the unnecessary.
